Ala-Archa National Park

Ala-Archa National Park

Ala-Archa gorge is one of the most visited gorges around Bishkek. It attracts many tourists both beginners and experienced trekkers as well. And also Ala-Archa gorge is very popular among mountaineers and climbers. This is the most popular place for climbing in ex-soviet countries.

The Ala-Archa gorge is located in a central part of Kyrgyz ridge in 40 km to the South of Bishkek. This is the biggest gorge among all gorges of the Kyrgyz ridge.

In Kyrgyz, the “archa”, which gives the park its name, is a multicolored juniper which the Kyrgyz people have traditionally held in special esteem, using smoke from its burning wood to chase away evil spirits. However, the archa is not supposed to be planted near the home, because it is believed gradually to sap the energy from human beings living close-by.

The park covers about 200 square kilometers, and its altitude ranges from about 1,500 meters at the entrance to a maximum of 4,895 meters at Peak Semenova Tian-Shanskiy, the highest peak in the Kyrgyz Ala-Too range of the Tian Shan. There are more than 20 small and large glaciers and some 50 mountain peaks within the park.

Our team can organize hiking or climbing tours there for you.
